Promoting the sport of Archery! The
Chickasaw Archery Club is a non-profit organization open to archers of all ages and class.
Our mission is to promote the sport of archery. In pursuit of this goal and
in recognition that Chickasaw's membership is composed of a widely diverse range of
archers, the staff and members strive to offer a variety of events to meet the style and
class of all archers. History
The Chickasaw Archery Club as we
know it today came into being in January of 1965. The members voted to
purchase this land of fifty to sixty acres from Bill
Armstrong. The
price was to be $9,000. After a survey of the land was made it was found to be 31.4
acres and Mr.Armstrong reduced the price to $8,500 and he
would build a road from the highway to
our concession stand free of charge. Peoples Bank of Shepherdsville
holds the first mortgage which is to be paid off in ten
years.
This change of the club from W.A.
Cartwright farm in Colesburg to the new property on Pitts Point Road off Highway 44 west
of Shepherdsville took many hours of hard work and many things donated by members to get
things started. The concession stand was first built from lumber of an old house the club
bought from Ernest Jackson near the club grounds.
"It was
with purpose that I left out the names of the many early members that donated so very much
in time and materials to the big undertaking of building Chickasaw Archery Club Range and
Clubhouse into the largest and best archery club in the state of Kentucky. I could in no
way go down the line and not leave someone or something out so I just say a great job was
done by all." Bill Small 1974.
On Sunday Aug
25, Chickasaw Archery Club was faced with an unexpected tragedy. The clubhouse was
vandalized and it was burnt to the ground. This was a devastating blow to all at
Chickasaw. Although this was a major setback for the members of the club and all
those who come out to participate in our open archery events, plans are underway to
rebuild our clubhouse. May wisdom and unity guide our officers and and members to
come together as one in order to complete this major obstacle. We will need everyone
to pitch in to complete this project.
We are back up
and running in our new clubhouse. After a lot of hard work and effort by Norman
Maybrier to head up the building project and the members that pitched in to help, our new
clubhouse and shooting facilities in one of the finest in the state. We offer a wide
range on shooting and competition. I encourage you to stop by for a visit.
